ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their regular season with a triangular meet against McKendree and Lewis on Saturday afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Ill.
The Triton women were edged by the Flyers 130-129 and fell to the host Bearcats 169-89 while the UMSL men were defeated by McKendree 206.50-77.50 and Lewis 183-88.
For the women,
Justice Beard improved her qualifying time for nationals in the 500 free winning the race in a time of 4:53.84. She dropped her time in the event by nearly a second. She also took second in the 200 free (1:51.66) which was also good for a qualifying time for nationals. Beard finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:08.84).
Cheyanne Godleski came in second in the 200 breast (2:25.37), finished third in the 100 breast (1:07.18) and was part of the 200 medley relay team along with
Ella Lantz,
Audrey Lantz and
Kate Nelson that finished second with a time of 1:44.93.
A. Lantz was third in the 100 back (59.19 seconds), Nelson took third in the 100 free (54.01), E. Lantz finished third in the 200 back (2:07.75) and the 200 free relay quartet of Nelson, A. Lantz,
Madison Bottorff and
Romina Itzkovich was third at 1:38.42.
For the men,
Conley Savage won the 200 back (1:50.50), was part of the 200 medley relay squad along with
Ryan Conner,
David Reynolds and
Lathan Parks that finished fourth at 1:32.28 and was part of the 200 free relay foursome with
Mattia Nardi,
Kaleb Suitor and
Elvin Sabanadzovic that was third (1:26.45).
Reynolds took third in the 100 fly (49.66),
Adam Campbell finished third in the 200 fly (1:54.26), Parks came in fourth in the 50 free (21.07),
Aaron Wicklund, Reynolds and Nardi finished fourth, fifth and sixth with times of 57.22, 57.74 and 58.02 respectively in the 100 breast.
Hendrik Bechtel was fifth in the 200 free (1:43.17),
Mason Smith came in fifth in the 200 breast (2:09.22) and
Carson Ring took fifth in the 500 free (4:46.34).
UMSL's 200 free relay squad of Reynolds, Parks,
Metehan Saruhan and
Joan Cortadellas Llubera was second at 1:23.58.
The Tritons return to the pool on Tuesday (Feb. 11) as they travel to Elkhart, Ind., for the 2025 GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Elkhart Aquatic Center. The five-day meet gets underway with the 800 free relay at 5 p.m. (CST).
